What is HereIR?

HereIR is a way to share your location with anyone you like in a way that makes sense.

How is it different?

Other location tracking services are usually either always on (which is a quick way to kill your battery) or they require you to manually enable and/or disable them.

HereIR only tracks your location when someone is actively watching where you are. It uses Android's Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM) to start the service when people need to know where you are. When they are finished tracking you, the service on your device will automatically shut down.

How does it work?

Sharing

  1. Create your account
  2. Setup permissions: HereIR makes it easy for you to choose who you want to share your location with and when they are allowed to track you. So if your boss needs to know where you are, you can limit him to work hours.
  3. Install the app: Make sure you let it run through its checks. You'll need to give it your username and password.

That's it. If all you are doing is sharing your location, you shouldn't have to do anything else.

Tracking

  1. Create your account
  2. Start tracking
  3. Optional: Install the app: Only necessary if you want to track from your device.

You are now able to track anyone who has chosen to give you permission.

Why not iPhone?

The only way HereIR can truly work the way it was designed is when apps can run in the background and be started remotely. Unfortunately, the iPhone doesn't have that capability.
